Victory for Jarkko Maeaettae in Rovaniemi
As a final test for the upcoming World Cup season, which starts in just a few days, the Finnish ski jumpers held their national championships on the normal hill this weekend.
Clearly the best athlete on Saturday in Rovaniemi was Jarkko Maeaettae. The 21-year-old, who was the best Finn in this summer's FIS Grand Prix in 43rd overall and with two 12th places in Hakuba and Chaikovsky, showed jumps of 92 m and 93.5 m and scored a total of 260.0 points.
The second place went to Lauri Asikainen with 92 m and 84.5 m and 236.9 points. With a very strong jump in the final round, Janne Korhonen could celebrate his first medal at national championships. The 20-year-old from Kuopio finished third with 84 m and the longest jump of the day on 94.5 m (236.7 points).
Janne Ahonen closely missed the podium in fourth with 234.9 points. Ville Larinto came in eighth, behind Antti Aalto (5th), Eetu Nousiainen (6th) and Kalle Heikkinen (7th).
Noriaki Kasai of Japan, who is already in Finland to prepare himself for the upcoming winter season, was also participating in this competition. The 44-year-old veteran tied for second with Lauri Asikainen.
