Austria dominates Lachtal EC
Facing perfect conditions at Lachtal, home of the 2015 World Championships alpine snowboarding events, 150 carving specialists were up to put the slope to the acid test.
In the first of two parallel slalom races, Ina Meschik underlined quickly that she did like the course posting the best qualifier time.
And the 23-year-old from Villach pushed the pedal to the metal in the knock out rounds, too.
Meschik stormed on the top spot of the podium edging off Amelie Kober (GER) and Claudia Riegler (AUT) to second and third respectively.
“I actually don't know why it's going so well right now. It feels like last year but this season, I'm faster,” Meschick explained after her win.
Mathies on fire
On the men's side of things, Lukas Mathies (AUT) kept the momentum of his two third place finishes from the World Cup opener in Carezza last weekend.
The young gun from St. Gallenkich came out victorious beating reigning Junior World Champion Stefan Baumeister (GER) in the big final.
Fastest qualifier Meinhard Erlacher (ITA) rounded out the podium as third.

However, the knock out rounds were overshadowed by a serious injury of Nina Micic.
The Serbian racer had been sitting in the start area when an abandoned skier lost by a coach atop of the course dashed down the hill unbraked hitting the 22-year-old right beneath the back protection causing serious troubles on the slope.
As a result, the finals had to be postponed to allow doctors to take care of Mimic who was diagnosed with serious back injuries.
Due to the long break of 90 minutes including medical and helicopter service the finals had to be run in a single run format.
“It was an unanimous decision with the coaches to make the finals happen. The accident did cost a lot of time. Despite that, we can be pleased with the first Europa Cup race. But I do hope, the injuries turn out not as bad as it seemed to be at first. We all hope that Nina Micic will be OK soon,” said Roland Horner, CEO of the team of Local Organisers.
