Ochner and Payer win season's first EC psl
Nadya Ochner (ITA) and Alexander Payer (AUT) have claimed victory in the first of two parallel slaloms which are currently staged in Landgraaf, Holland, as season's opener for the 2015-16 Europa Cup tour.
Ochner, a 2014 Olympian with one World Cup podium to her belt, beat 2015 PSL World Cup title winner Julie Zogg from Switzerland in the women's finals making SnowWorld Landgraaf a special place in her racing career:
“I just love Landgraaf! The first time I was here was in 2011, and I came 4th in the World Cup. In 2013, I won silver and bronze in FIS-races here and now this. It is great, and I love the slope. For me this result is a confirmation that I’m on the right track. It’s a good sign.”
Ina Meschik (AUT) came out successful of the race for the third rank against Stefanie Mueller (SUI).
In the men's competition, Payer earned his victory in a duel with Bulgaria's Radoslav Yankov who upset some of the world's best including Olympic and world champions today.
“I have never raced here before, but I really liked it. Landgraaf is a good place to train efficiently and to test new material and the competition was good to. I think out of the top-16 only two men were missing. I would like to have a World Cup here also," said Payer after his triumph in his first indoor race.
Andrey Sobolev, most successful alpine snowboarder of the 2015 world championships, rounded out the podium as third beating Mirko Felicetti (ITA) in the small finals.
Tomorrow will bring the second parallel slalom featuring a strong and deep field again.
