Yanetani and Yoshioka Japanese PGS Champions
The weeks of nationals continued in Japan the other day – with a few surprises as some European allstars enjoyed competing in the land of the rising sun when Eri Yanetani and Kentaro Yoshioka won the national PGS titles.
Yanetani beat Miki Maruyama in the women's finals thus taking the top spot of the podium. Asa Toyoda finished in third after edging off Emi Sato to fourth in a close duel.
On the men's side, Yoshioka earned his title being the best ranked Japanese rider after having lost the final of the race agains Koreans Myung-Kon Ji.
Kohei Kawaguchi and Shinnosuke Kamino rounded out the podium as second and third.
But besides some exciting racing for the medals, a few European big names decided to compete in their last race, too. Well, at least in the qualifiers.
Ingemar Walder (AUT) who takes over the job as Swiss Head Coach as well as Simon Schoch (SUI) placed 1st and 6th in the time trials but then decided to leave out the head to head duels.
2014 Olympic Silver medallist Tomoko Takeuchi did the same after being the fastest in the race against the clock.
