20-year-old snowboard cross athlete Mariya Vasiltsova took the scene by storm nailing her career's first World Cup podium during her first ever World Cup start at Montafon, Austria.
The Novosibirsk native did impress the world's best with some solid riding she had adopted over the past two seasons on the Europa Cup tour.
However, in so far 23 starts on the Continental Cup level, she had never earned a better finish than a sixth rank in Cortina d'Ampezzo back in 2013.
Nevertheless, given the fact that Vasiltsova started to learn snowboarding pretty late compared to her peers, her stellar career doesn't come from nothing but from pure talent.
“I was 15 years old when I saw others riding. I wanted to try it out and got hooked by the sport”, she said after her mind-blowing World Cup debut.
Only one year later, at the age of 16, the goofy rider decided to focus on snowboard cross. It was the right decision as she earned the national team status soon after.
When Vasiltsova isn't training with the team or racing the Europa Cup or World Cup tour, the 168cm tall rider shreds her home resort in Novosibirsk or hits the slopes of Krasnoyarsk.
