On the snowboard cross World Cup tour that features a long list of picturesque stops, Austria's Montafon region is perhaps the prettiest of them all.
Once home to the great writer Ernest Hemingway (who wrote several short stories about his skiing experiences in Montafon, some of which are published in his famous collection A Moveable Feast), the area sometimes referred to as the the Blue Silvretta due to its surrounding peaks and glaciers proved itself to be an exceptional addition to the World Cup tour.
It's the sixth consecutive year now that Montafon is hosting a snowboard World Cup event. And it's the fifth time that a stop of the snowboard cross World Cup tour will be staged on the Seebliga on Hochjoch.
However, things are slightly different in the 2017-18 season as the third stop of the tour is also part of the new Cross Alps series, a tour within the World Cup tour also featuring races in Val Thorens (FRA) and Cervinia (ITA) - with the latter one still to be confirmed.
But besides some thrilling head-to-head action on a purpose-built course with great view for the audience at site, there is even more excitement taking place in the valley.
Like the years before, Local Organisers are proud to not only welcome the world's finest snowboard cross racers to compete in the season's opener but also to round out everything with a music line-up making the sole SBX stop in Austria an event not to be missed.

The 2011/12 winter season opened with a spectacular new addition: Nova and Hochjoch are now connected by the Grasjoch Bahn and the Hochalpila Bahn, two state-of-the-art gondola lifts. This made Silvretta Montafon the largest skiing area in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg – so snowboarders now have an even wider choice of slopes and can really make the most of the Alpine experience.
As well as the Hochjoch Totale and the Black Scorpions runs, more advanced riders can now carve their way down the Montafon Totale and the off-piste runs at Kuhtäli.
For more leisurely snowboarders, the Montafoner Höhenrausch is the perfect way to discover all the best viewpoints in the new skiing area.
While the European festival summer is currently underway, Local Organisers of the Montafon World Cup stop are already showing a great game extending the festival season into the up-coming winter
France's top women pair Nelly Moenne Loccoz and Chloe Trespeuch as well as Spanish racers Regino Hernandez and Lucas Eguibar have clinched the win at this season's first team snowboard cross event staged at Montafon, Austria.
Belle Brockhoff (AUS) and Hagen Kearney (USA) have triumphed in a thrilling and exciting snowboard cross World Cup opener staged at Montafon (AUT) today which delivered tons of moments which make boarder cross what it is – a stunning and unpredictable show.
Eva Samkova (CZE) and Nikolay Oulynin (RUS) start new season strong with top quali times.
The course for this season's first snowboard cross races is similar to the ones of the previous season as it follows last year's line.
This week will bring the 2016-17 season's first stop of the snowboard cross World Cup tour in Montafon (AUT) where one individual and one team race are staged from December 15 to 18, 2016.
