About 90 riders ready for another one in Switzerland
32 ladies and 57 men will enter the 950 metres long snowboard cross course in Veysonnaz for their penultimate race of the 2014 World Cup season today as the qualifiers for tomorrow's finals are set to kick off at 10:45 AM with the men.
Ladies time trials are scheduled for 1:45 PM.
And it's the ladies' field which stands out most as it is led by newly crowned Olympic Champion Eva Samkova who will try to give it a last go in the race for the Crystal Globe.
Right now, with only two more races to go, Sochi silver medallist Dominique Maltais sits on the top spot of the rankings with 3,400. US power house Lindsey Jacobellis (USA, 2,560) follows in second with Samkova currently ranking third (2,360).
On the men's side, the race for the World Cup title is also in the focus as Omar Visintin (ITA, 2,426) will have to defend his lead in the rankings against a pack of at least five to seven other riders who are willing to take a chance.
However, Sochi medallists Pierre Vaultier (FRA, Gold) and Alex Deibold (Bronze) are missing, while Nikolay Olyunin (RUS, Silver) will compete on the technical course on the Piste de l'Ours built by Todd Main.
The designer from Development Snowparks has put together purpose-built course with 17 freestyle-based features such as big table-top jumps, step-ups, step-downs, rollers and banked turns that provide several opportunities to overtake.
