Austrian ladies and US-American men victorious in Team SBX
In the first SBX Team event of the 2013 FIS Snowboard World Cup season, the Austrian ladies as well as US-American men were ahead by a nose.
On the women's side, Maria Ramberger and Susanne Moll brought home a much celebrated home turf victory in front of the Austrian fans after a sensational comeback of Moll, team rider #2, in the last part of the course.
The rider from Bregenzerwald, also part of the Vorarlberg, was more than five board length behind the two French girls in front of her before put the pedal to the metal in the very last roller section.
Like a magnet, the 25-years-old came closer and closer and passed both rivals thus relegating the two teams Claire Chapotot/Lorelei Schmitt and Nelly Moenne Loccoz/Chloe Trespeuch to the second and third rank respectively.
No wonder that Moll cheered: “What a great finish. I knew that the last part would suite my riding and that I still could come back even though I would do bad in the top part.”
On the men's side, Hagen Kearney and Nate Holland of the USA took the first place at the European debut of the Team SBX event.
It was another great finish for Holland in Austria.
“It was awesome. I always enjoy team races.
After yesterday I was hungry. I didn't race so well yesterday but I had to win something in Austria just like two years ago in Lech. I also had some success in Bad Gastein. I like races in Austria, the fans are great and fired up.”
Luca Matteotti and Omar Visintin from Italy as well as Austrians Alessandro Haemmerle and Markus Schairer rounded out the podium as second and third.
In the team sbx, two riders form a team. As soon as the first rider crosses the finishes line, the start gate will automatically open for his team mate.
