The Austrian snowboard cross team is still ill-fated.

After Michael Haemmerle had torn his ACL in the test session for the World Cup opener at Montafon, it got Markus Schairer badly yesterday.

In one of his training runs for the qualifiers at the Lake Louise SBX World Cup, the 2009 World Champion and 2013 WCS Silver medalist crashed badly on his shoulder breaking his AC joint and tearing four ligaments.

The 26-year-old from St. Gallenkirch will fly home as soon as possible to undergo surgery.

Not knowing how long he will be forced to rehab instead of on-snow preps, the World Cup leader, who seemed to be on top of his game, is still hoping for a good end of that bad story.

“I'm not willing yet to call this a season's end. I still hope for Sochi,” Schairer said.
