A high-class field which would prove worthy of a World Cup event has been competing on the Pitztal glacier at this season's first Europa Cup snowboard cross race with an Aussie and German racer taking the win.

One day after the Austrian Championships took place on the same course at Mittelbergjoch, it was time for the up-coming talents to battle for some points.

However, other than normal Europa Cup events, the star-studded World Cup rider packed competition was too strong for the young guns.

In the women's competition, Belle Brockhoff (AUS) relegated French teammates Nelly Moenne Loccoz, Charlotte Bankes and Sarah Devouassoux to the second, third and fourth rank respectively.

On the men's side of things, German racer Konstantin Schad came out successful of the big final ahead of Hagen Kearny (USA), two-time World Champion Alex Pullin (AUS) and Emanuel Perathoner (ITA).

“It's nice to start the season with a win, especially in such a good field,” Schad said after the race.
