Olympians dominate Universiade SBX event

Alexandra Jekova (BUL) and Nikolay Olyunin (RUS) have triumphed in the first snowboard event of the 2015 Universiade currently been staged in Sierra Nevada, Spain, home of the 2017 FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships.

While the Bulgarian racer wrapped up her first Universiade participation walking away with gold ahead of Sochi bronze medallist Chloe Trespeuch (FRA) and Switzerland's Simona Meiler, the Russian powerhouse was able to cross the finish line in the men's finals ahead of Alessandro Haemmerle (AUT).

Nathan Birrien (FRA), who has only one World Cup start to his belt so far, surprised the field stacked with Olympic and world championships medallists taking home bronze in the men's competition.

In total, 18 girls and 35 boys from all over the world had fought in thrilling heats of four for the honour at the 27th ever Universiade Games.
