Olympic champions lead world's best in first final at Feldberg
Reigning Olympic snowboard cross champions Eva Samkova (CZE) and Pierre Vaultier (FRA) have posted the best times in today's qualifiers to lead the world's best athletes into tomorrow's first finals of the double World Cup event at Feldberg, Germany.
Vaultier stormed down the innovative sprint course on Seebuck in 29.77 this morning being 22 hundredths faster than two-time world champion Alex Pullin (AUS).
Germany's local hero Konstantin Schad underlined his goal of a home soil triumph in 30.02 seconds while defending World Cup title champion Lucas Eguibar (SPA) was the fourth best to qualify in 30.03.
Swiss young gun Jerome Lymann impressed as fifth fastest men in 30.05.
In the afternoon, the girls took over centre stage with Samkova claiming the role as main favourite for the win.
The Czech racer nailed a 31.89 while Australia's Belle Brockhoff was the only one to come close to her best time (31.97).
French riders Nelly Moenne Loccoz and Chloe Trespeuch ranked third and fourth respectively with both posting a 32.21.
Tomorrow's finals are scheduled for 12:30 PM CET and will run in heats of 6.
Several TV stations will broadcast the tight duels live including ORF Sport+ (AUT), BNT (BUL), MCS Extreme (FRA), Sport 1 (NED).
In addition, NBC Universal and Sportschau.de will stream the finals live while ARD (GER) will start airing the show around 1 PM CET.
