Petit and Douschan claim Europa Cup title
The European snowboard cross season closed out in style in Bad Gastein last weekend with Manon Petit and Hanno Douschan taking home a well-deserved title.
Petit, a 17-year-old shredder from Clermont Ferrand, who has been on the Europa Cup tour since 2014 wrapped up a season she will never forget in style.
Descending on Austria with the self-confidence of a 2016 YOG title, a bronze medal in the junior worlds sbx race a week ago as well as the junior world championships title in the sbx team event, Petit had to fight off her strongest rival Francesca Gallina in order to win the EC title.
While her Italian pursuer did everything she could to keep hold on her last chance to take over the lead in the EC rankings by winning both races of the double event in Bad Gastein, Petit defended her lead placing third twice.
In the end, the young French racer claimed the title with 2,170 points ahead of Gallina (1,933.05) and Yulia Lapteva (RUS, 1,797).
While the women's season's wrapped up with a win by a rising star, the men's ranking featured a well-known face on the top spot of the final Europa Cup ranking.
Thanks to a total of four wins over the course of the last season, Austria's Hanno Douschan (2,470) also earned his career's first EC title ahead of Tommaso Leoni (ITA, 1,570) and his fellow countryman Lukas Pachner (1,527) who secured his podium spot due to a double win in Austria.
And as the first race in Bad Gastein also counted as sbx nationals for the Snowboard Team Austria, Pachner also took home the 2016 national championships title to Vienna while Kristina Neussner celebrated the win on the women's side of things.
