Samkova and Olyunin dominate SBX qualifiers at 2013 Winter Universiade

Eva Samkova (CZE) and Nikolay Olyunin (RUS) have posted best times in today's snowboard cross qualifiers at the 2013 Winter Universiade currently staged in Trentino.

The current Ladies SBX World Cup leader secured the fastest time on the Monte Bondone slope ahead of her fellow countrywoman Katerina Chourova as well as Zuzanna Smykala from Poland.

With a lead of 2.48 seconds on her pursuers the 20-year-old three-time Junior World Champion is the for sure the top contender for the win in tomorrow's finals.

I had a great first run, so I decided to skip my second run. I know that I'm the big favourite but I'm quite confident for tomorrow,” explained the two-time World Cup winner.

On the men's side of things, Olyunin took the top seat for the finals edging off Hanno Douschan (AUT) and David Wal (POL) and said: “I'm not really surprised. I'm in a good shape and I really want to win tomorrow in the finals.”

Snowboard cross is the first medal event at this year's Winter Universiade.
