Sometimes, winter sport athletes are getting the chance to visit other sport events, cheer for athletes or – even better – send them on their road to glory.

Last Sunday, Germany's leading snowboard cross rider Konstantin Schad had the honour to fire off the gun at the 29th Schliersee Alpentriathlon, a triathlon event taking place right between Schliersee and Spitzingsee and therefore in Schad's backyard.

“Being a testimonial für Sixtus, I had the honour to open the most tradition-rich event in my home area. Unfortunately it was pouring rain like at my last Olympics.

So, I was able to feel with all athletes. It's remarkable what they undertake. The course is pretty decent!”

After 1.5 km of running, the field of 500 had to tackle a 40 km long cycle course spiced up with 930 metres of climbing before finishing things off with a 10 km run.
