  • The winter resort in Styria located in the North Eastern part of the Gurktaler Alps has a strong connection to snowboarding and thus a long-lasting history of hosting memorable events.

    With its 40 kilometres of slopes access able with one gondola, several chair and t-bar lifts, the mountain might seem to be made for nice family trips but do to several inventions Kreischberg also offers outstanding riding fun for pro and amateur snowboarders.

    Besides the biggest halfpipe in Europe, Kreischberg also came up with Airypark, a fun park featuring rails, boxes and kickers as well as one step-up and one wall ride.

    Due to its outstanding facilities Kreischberg has been hosting a total of ten World Cup competitions from 1997 to 2012 thus organising 23 different competitions of whom three where quickly taken over as replacement organisers for other cancelled tour stops.

    But the most enthralling snowboard moments on the slopes of Kreischberg were witnessed in 2003 when the resort hosted amazing FIS Snowboard World Championships.

    Twelve years later, it's time again as the 2015 World Championships will take place again at Kreischberg thus re-writing history once again as the first ever joint FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing worlds will be organised. In addition, Kreischberg will become the first resort to host it's second major event in snowboarding.

    The 2014 FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup tour concluded with a triumphant day for Sarka Pancochova (CZE) and Mans Hedberg (SWE). Both snowboarders were not only able to clinch the season's last slopestyle contest at Kreischberg, Austria, home of the first ever combined FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships next January, but also claimed the title in both, Slopestyle and Freestyle Overall World Cup due to their first rank today.

    Warm weather delays qualifiers and shortens course

    The warm weather situation at Kreischberg, venue of the first ever combined FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships in 2015, was responsible for a one hour delay of today's slopestyle qualifiers of the final stop of the 2014 FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup tour.

    Compared to the Olympic slopestyle course at Sochi, course shaper Alli Zehetner has designed a different line for the season's final of the FIS Snowboard World Cup tour which will take place on March 5 (qualifiers) and 6 (finals) at Kreischberg.
