  • Ruka’s season lasts from October to June. Almost 250 snowboarding days per year make Ruka one of the most snow secure winter sport resorts in Europe!

The secret to this accomplishment lies in the climate, as well as in the high-quality snowmaking machinery and the snow-how!

However, riders as well as organizers hope that this winter will bless the small resort with better conditions, snow-wise as well as in terms of visibility. Due to heavy fog, the last halfpipe competition (Dez, 2011) had to be judged from the deck, halfway up the halfpipe. It was the first time ever, the scoring judges had to move upwards in order to guarantee a fair event.

The pipe in Ruka, which actually was the first one in Finland, is 130 meters long and has an angle of 16.5 degrees, will be the venue for the fourth World Cup stop ever in Ruka since 2001, 2001 and 2011.

Rukatunturi is a very popular destination to Finns who love winter sports as it offer a total of 30 slopes. For the last few years, Kuusamo and the ski resort of Ruka have been known as exotic destinations for tourists all over the world.

    Here are some facts:

    - 20 ski lifts, 30 slopes

    - Elevation 201 m, peak 492 m

    - Longest slope 1300 m

    - Ski lift capacity 24100 skiers per hour

    - 5 chair lifts, one detachable RukaExpress

    - Slopes open daily 9.30am-7pm

    - Night slopes on Fridays until 11pm
