"Best thing about summer training? Warm weather surfing" - ITV with Nathan Johnstone
Australia's #1 halfpipe rider recaps the past months of work out.
Just a few days before the halfpipe cracks kick off the new World Cup season in Cardrona, New Zealand, FISsnowboard.com gathered with Nathan Johnstone for a quick chat.
The reigning World Champion gave a quick overview on what he has done over the past months. In fact, it's easy to summarize in three words: training, training, training.
FISSnowboard.com: Hi Nathan, Where did you spend the most time of the summer? Have you been travelling a bit too?
Nathan Johnstone: Well, this summer I did a lot of surfing and just worked on building up strength in the gym. I also went over to Mt Bachelor for a summer training camp, which was really good.
But you spent most of your time in the gym?
I worked five days a week in the gym with our personal trainer. I like doing a lot of the strength exercises. It's good to see all the hard work you put in pay off.
Is there any other thing you did to stay in shape?
Heaps of surfing.
So, isn't that better than the gym?
Yeah, the best thing about summer training is enjoying the warm weather surfing.
Being in good shape and with only a few days to go, what do you expect from the first halfpipe World Cup?
Well, I just want to get a good result to kick off my Olympic qualifying campaign. I have been working on some stuff over summer training camps so it would be good to bring that into a competition run.
