While the halfpipe qualifiers for the FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup at the 9th Snowboard Jamboree presented by Mazda in collaboration with Videotron Mobile took place yesterday afternoon in Stoneham, the big air specialist took over centre state at their sole competition of this winter right in the heart of Quebec City later the day.

22 men competed in the night time qualification of the Big Air World Cup presented by Videotron Mobile staged on the massive ramp in the Parc Îlot Fleurie.

It was an impressive prelude of what to expect when the best 12 riders will meet again tonight in the finals under flood light providing some stunning and magical big air moments again when soaring through the air and impressing judges and fans with their tricks.

Heat is on at 8:30 PM ET (Jan 18, 2:30 AM CET) when last qualifier Matts Kulisek (CAN) will open the show which could be characterised by a battle of Northern Europe vs the hosting nation.

Mans Hedberg and Nicklas Mattsson of Sweden took the first and third qualifier spot yesterday with 82.75 and 80 respectively while Canada's Antoine Truchon and Maxence Parrot claimed second and fifth earning 80.50 and 74.

The field is completed by three more Fins, Aleksi Partanen, former World Champion Petja Piiroinen and Nuutti Niemelae as well as Russia's Alexey Sobolev, Patrick Burgener from Switzerland, Sam Turnbull (GBR) and Takahiro Ishida from Japan.
