Olympic Snowboarding Team Announced
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced the nomination of 13 halfpipe and slopestyle snowboarding athletes Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix.
Slopestyle snowboarding will be contested in the Olympic Winter Games for the first time ever in Sochi.
The five event qualifying series came down to the final stop at Mammoth Mountain, with all but two spots decided during the final event weekend.
Right now, the squad is lead by three Olympic HP Champions: Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter and Shaun White, who will have a shot of a Gold three-peat in the halfpipe contest at Sochi.
In addition, the team also features halfpipe riders Kaitlyn Farrington and Arielle Gold as well as Taylor Gold, Gregory Bretz and Danny Davis.
Besides White, who will be the only athlete to compete in both snowboard freestyle events at Sochi, the slopestyle crew consists of Jamie Anderson and Ty Walker as well as Charles Guldemond and Sage Kotsenburg.
The formal naming of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team by the United States Olympic Committee is set for Jan. 27.
