Snowboard seasons finishs off with Swiss big air champs staged at final Europa Cup event
While Isabel Derungs and Jonas Boesiger got crowned Swiss big air champions at this season's last Europa Cup event, Katerina Vojackova (CZE) and Emiliano Lauzi (ITA) took home the EC title.
A long snowboard season came to an exciting end last Friday under a blue bird sky when the final big air competition of the 2015-16 Europa Cup season took place at Sils, Switzerland also hosting the Swiss nationals.
Derungs earned her title as best ranked Swiss lady of the final snowboard contest of the 2015-16 winter at Corvatsch with a backside rodeo 5 melon and a front 7 finishing second behind of this season's best female big air rider Katerina Vojackova who closed out her fifth EC season in style defending her big air title.
Elena Koenz, who had won the slopestyle nationals just a few days ago claimed silver behind of Derungs with Ariane Burri rounding out the podium as third.
In the men's event, Jonas Boesiger met the expectations as main favourite for the crown clinching the final Europa Cup and therefore also the nationals ahead of Dario Burch with Swiss slopestyle champion Moritz Thoenen taking bronze finishing off the EC in fifth position.
Boesiger claimed gold in dominating fashion being the sole rider of the field landing a triple (backside triple mute) whilst also stomping a front 1080 double mute.
“It's amazing to wrap up the season on such a high level. And of course I'm super happy taking home the title,” said Boesiger.
While the 21-year-old celebrated his career's first national title, Emiliano Lauzi brought also home the EC big air title two days after he had won the slopestyle title.
