Mirko Smogavec wins “Marguc Challenger” event at Rogla
Reigning PSL World Champion Rok Marguc hosted his own parallel race event for the first time last Sunday.
A total of 40 riders from all over Slovenia came to Rogla to celebrate the end of the season together with Rok Marguc.
On the World Cup slope of last season, national team head coack Peter Kotnik set a GS course rich in variety.
“I wanted to set the course so everyone would enjoy the freedom of carving,” said Kotnik before encouraging everyone to give its best.
And so did the competitors after a short demonstration by national team members and VIP guests Tim Mastnak and Jure Hafner.
Local rider Mirko Smogavec (SD Tinje Kostruni/SG Snowboards) came out first beating Gasper Oblak (Ajga Team/Sense) in the final.
Women's national team member Gloria Kotnik (Jasey Jay Snowboards) took third ahead of Gaber Guna (Ajga Team/Sense).
“I was impressed by the riding level of our sport class riders,” noted host Rok Marguc,
“It's obvious that we do not have to worry about the future of our sport. We saw some very talented youngsters and also some older guys who have been around for a while,” added Marguc who rode the last duel of the day with the race's winner before the season's end party kicked off under spring sun.
