Freestyle Skiing: Promotion is the focus

The main focus of the meetings were some refinements to rules that were introduced last season, based on experience of implementation with the feedback of the competitors, advisory groups, TV experts and staff with the systems now in place for Voss 2013 and Sochi 2014. The TV distribution and audience reports provided that changes made to the discipline and the events are having positive effects.

In mogul skiing, an additional format can be used in World Cup and the number of skiers that can be qualified to the final and the super final at the World Ski Championships and Olympic Winter Games has been adjusted. Also in moguls skiing, a modified jump degree of difficulty (DD) table was approved, with the hope of new jumps coming for Sochi 2014 as well as revision of some mogul judging criteria for turns.

In aerials, the five judge overall system will be used at all levels of competitions and the introduction of the system for a technical specialist. Some refinements were made to the specifications for jumps.

In ski cross, it was agreed to follow the new age limits in alpine skiing. There were further refinements to procedures regarding forerunners and course testers and work has started to introduction the electronic start gate system.

In ski Halfpipe and ski slopestyle, it was agreed to introduce quotas for the coming season. Last season, the quotas were open and it was agreed to have fixed team size quotas and a higher nation's quota.

Regarding the FIS World Cup Calendar, there will be in total an increase to 100 competitions in 29 locations in 19 nations, from the 74 competitions last season. It will start in  the Southern Hemisphere with a ski halfpipe competition combined with a Snowboard World Cup in Cardrona (NZL). This will be followed by the first ever South American World Cup in Ushuaia (ARG) in the new Olympic event of ski slopestyle.
