Levi set to stage slalom opener
Preparations for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Slalom Opening in Levi (FIN) are in full swing. On 10th and 11th November, a total of 157 athletes from 23 countries will be racing their first slalom competition of the season.
Some of the athletes have already arrived to train in Levi where conditions are already wintry. Among the “big names” to arrive are last season’s slalom World Cup title winners Marlies Schild (AUT) and André Myhrer (SWE) next to the defending overall World Cup champions Lindsey Vonn (USA) and Marcel Hirscher (AUT).
The northernmost event on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup circuit thus promises to put on another great show featuring tight action. Ted Ligety, convincing winner of the Soelden giant slalom will be looking to stamp his authority slalom too his great form in slalom too.
It has been snowing for the last few days and the entire venue is covered with some 40 cm natural snow on the ground.”We definitely have enough snow in Levi and on the race slope. This obviously has an impact on our work, for example for the venue construction and slope preparation. But we are not complaining - instead work continues in excellent spirits, commented Levi Organising Committee's Secretary General Mikko Saarinen smiling.
