High interest in Ski Jumping in Turkey
Erzurum, the organizer of the Winter Universiade 2011 is making great progress not only in construction of the venues but also in training the officials. Last week already the 3rd Ski Jumping seminar within 12 months was carried out, which this time focused on the topics of "Organization of Ski Jumping competition" and "Which FIS Rules apply".
In practice, the seminar included discussions from the big picture down to the smallest detail related to competition organization. The participants included members of the organizing committee and competition management, numbering 80 people.
Erzurum is located at an altitude of approximately 1750 meters, surrounded by the Palandöken Mountain range that reaches up to 3'500m. It is located 400km from the famous biblical mountain of Ararat. The city boasts a university with 45‘000 students many of whom are involved in the organization of the Universiade 2011. Several professors are in leading roles in the organizing committee.
The construction at the Ski Jumping stadium includes five hills, from 25m to a normal and large hill. The Turkish Ski Association has been developing Ski Jumping for a few years.
Horst Tielmann, the men's FIS Continental Cup Coordinator, who led the seminar, noted: "There is very high interest in Erzurum in the organization of good competitions and any other opportunities that may arise with that."
