The 2012 FIS Congress in Korea will bring about the election of the host of the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. On Tuesday, 29th May 2012, each Candidate will have the chance to make presentations to the respective Technical Committees, as well as a final presentation to the FIS Council. They will also display their candidatures to the extended FIS family on exhibition stands at the Congress venue.
The official announcement of the winner will take place on Thursday, 31st May 2012 at approximately 19:00 local time (12:00 CET) and will be streamed live on the FIS websites.
Planica is a first-time Candidate to host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships . Never having organized the Nordic Championships, but as the host of numerous FIS Ski Jumping World Cups, Planica is now ready to welcome the world's top Nordic skiers.
With strong public support, the Nordic Worlds in 2017 would be the next step after the completion of the construction of the modern Nordic Ski Center by 2014. In addition, the venue situated in 2000 meter high mountains provides microclimatic conditions allowing for competition-friendly weather and has proven to inspire a festival atmosphere during past events.
