Schlierenzauer best in FIS Grand Prix final
Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT) remains unbeatable in Klingenthal. After four previous victories, the Austrian highflyer took his fifth win in the "Vogtland-Arena" in the final of the FIS Grand Prix Ski Jumping summer series. He outperformed Robert Kranjec of Slovenia with his last jump, beating the first round leader by 0.9 points. Harri Olli (FIN), who set a new hill record of 146 m in a training round, finished 3rd. The overall FIS Grand Prix winner Simon Ammann (SUI) skipped the last competition.
"I'm a little bit surprised about my good results because I am still having some difficulties. I like this hill a lot and it's a great feeling to win here for the fifth time," said Schlierenzauer, who added: "The new rules are predominantly good in making the competitions fairer. It is important to make sure that the spectators at the hill and TV viewers can follow everything. If that's the case, then it's good." The new rule enabling a gate change in the middle of a competition round was used by the jury in the final.
The final summer competition also saw the first implementation of the new TV graphics that include information on the impact of current wind conditions and inrun length. Gerd Sigmund, Commentator for Eurosport Germany noted: "The new graphics are really helpful. They provide exactly the details that are important for communicating the impact of the new rules. After some refinement, these graphics will really help to tell the story of the competition."
