Sölden awaits cold weather front

Sölden awaits cold weather front

As snow has been falling across the North of Europe for a few days - snowy reports have been received from Norway, Sweden and Finland - whilst Central Europe has been experiencing unusually mild temperatures. In parts of the Alps, the thermometer reached +25C on Wednesday.

For the traditional Audi FIS Alpine World Cup glacier opening in Sölden (AUT) the warm weather is posing a certain challenge. At the moment, there is limited snow even on the glacier. "Everything is ready on the glacier. As always, what's possible will be done to prepare the race course. Colder weather is forecast for the coming days and snow production will begin as soon as possible. The official snow control is scheduled for 15th October. Principally the Sölden event will not be rescheduled if it cannot be held as planned on 24th-25th October," stated Günter Hujara, FIS Race Director for Alpine men.
