10th edition of Ski Event draws more than 20'000 in Aarhus (DEN) Saturday 3rd October 2009 was the day for the annual Ski Event to take place at the Store Torv in Aarhus, the 2nd largest city in Denmark. The Ski Event features a ski areal in the center of the city, with real snow from the Sölden glacier. This year, more than 50 tons of snow was brought to Aarhus in two large cooling trucks. The 2009 edition of the event did not enjoy the best weather, but participants did not notice the rain or heavy winds. Along with actually trying out skiing, the Danish and Scandinavian ski tourism and equipment industries were on site as were some Danish ski clubs. Next to the slope, there was ski play area for the youngest kids and a cross-country track. All Kindergartens in Aarhus were invited to visit the ski play area before the main event. Six kindergartens accepted the invitation and enjoyed two days of skiing on the cross-country slope. During the event itself, the prize for the "Best Sporting Performance 2009" was awarded to Julie Lundholdt for her 6th place finish in snowboard cross at the 2009 FIS Snowboard World Championships in Gangwon Province (KOR). At night, the Freestyle and Snowboard teams took over and threw a fantastic party at the event areal, featuring a head-to-head competition including some of the best Danish riders. Altogether, 20'000-25'000 people attended the 2009 Ski Event. It was the 10th time the event was held and the Danish Ski Association and the Austrian Tourism Board have been partners since the beginning.
