Sölden is ready

Sölden is ready

Thanks to freshly fallen snow and low temperatures the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season opening will be held as scheduled in Sölden on 24-25th October 2009.

Hans Pieren, FIS Race Director for the men's technical events gave the go ahead last Friday. Since then a team of up to 40 people has been working to prepare the race course and the work is going precisely on schedule. "Thanks to the beautiful sunny weather, we are right in plan. The last part, the long steep bit, was injected Wednesday. In many places, the dry cold snow was additionally watered by hand so that we can prepare as compact and even base as possible for all athletes," Pieren said.

Some light snow is expected to fall during the night to Thursday but according to the current forecast, sunny weather is expected at least for Saturday, with potentially more overcast weather following on Sunday.

Besides the racing, a full schedule of activities awaits the ski circus in Sölden. Dozens of press conferences, the announcement of the Skieur d'Or 2009 and various side events will make for an exciting weekend at the start of the season.
