London to host season opening big air The LG Snowboard FIS World Cup is about to return to London. The first big air of the 2010 season will take place right next to the iconic towers of Battersea Power Station. More than 50 riders from 12 nations shall showcase their talent at the London Freeze festival, a three day festival culminating with the big air on Saturday, 31st October. This year's festival will also see special music acts taking on the stage featuring for example Orbital and Friendly Fires. The sole World Cup stop on British soil, the London big air promises to feature outstanding tricks by some of the world's most talented riders. This year's contest features the likes of Austrian style master Stefan Gimpl, Swiss young gun Iouri Podladtchikov along with the Finnish armada led by 2003 world champion Risto Mattila and top shredder Janne Korpi, among others. The set-up for the riders is spectacular. Next to Battersea Power Station, one of Europe's biggest brick buildings, the massive ramp has an overall length of 32 meters and a landing strip of 110 meters. The ramp and area around have been covered with 500 tons of real snow. |
