Grass Skiing Worlds to start in 7 days in Goldingen

The Ski Club Goldingen is organizing the FIS Grass Skiing World Championship 2011 in the resort of Atzmännig, Switzerland. After staging successful Grass Skiing World Cup events in 2003 and 2010, the highlight in the valley of Goldingen will now follow from 30th August-4th September 2011.

The official opening ceremony for the FIS World Championships and Junior World Championships will take place in Atzmännig on Tuesday 30th August followed by the bib draw for Wednesday's races.

Athletes from Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Taiwan and the Czech Republic are confirmed while further entries are still expected. A total of 80 athletes will participate in these World Championships.

The title fights start with the juniors' giant slalom and the super-G for the ladies and men. Anna Lena Büdenbender (GER) is the favorite in the ladies races while athletes from other nations such as Czech Republic, Austria, Japan and Slovakia will also fight for a podium on the first day.

The Ski Club Goldingen and the Organizing Committee led by president Franz Gübeli are looking forward to thrilling competitions after intensive preparations. More than 100 volunteers along with the 30 that belong to the Organizing Committee will be best positioned to welcome the teams thanks to their experiences collected during the past events.
