10th Ruka Nordic Opening delivers full program The 10th anniversary of the Ruka Nordic Opening was characterized by Austrian and Norwegian celebration. In Cross-Country Skiing, the Norwegian ladies' team led by Marit Bjoergen swept the podium of the 2nd edition of the three-day Ruka Triple mini-tour, whilst in the men's event, Norway collected both the victory through Petter Northug and the third place. In Nordic Combined, another Norwegian Magnus Krog scored his maiden World Cup victory along with the World Cup leader's yellow bib. In Ski Jumping, Austria dominated through victory in the team competition and delivered a full podium sweep in the individual one. Despite various schedule changes, the Organizers of the Ruka Nordic Opening were pleased with the outcome of the competition weekend. All ten scheduled competitions were carried out even though the windy weather especially affected the Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined competitions on Saturday. "The weather on Saturday was a great disappointment. As a result, we narrowly missed our 20'000 spectator goal by some 1'000. But the atmosphere remained excellent and because we were able to deliver the entire program, we can look positively into the future of the Nordic Opening at Ruka," commented Secretary General Seppo Linjakumpu after the final event. He also extended his sincere thanks to the various stakeholders from FIS to all parts of the Organizing Committee, partners and media. "We had excellent cooperation. Even though the schedule changed, all progressed smoothly and communication flow was seamless. Special acknowledgement belongs to the host broadcaster YLE that was flexible in adapting to the schedule changes."
