21st FIS-CIT Critérium Mondial 2012 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The 21st FIS-CIT Critérium Mondial is history. After the events in 2008 in Haus im Ennstal (AUT) and in 2010 in Caspoggio (ITA) the challenge this year was for the German Ski Association to carry out another successful Critérium. With the ski arm of TSV 1860 München, a well-organized team took the responsibility for race organization after having already staged several FIS-CIT races in the past. Exactly one year after the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the FIS-CIT highlight event took place on the World Cup courses from just weeks before. After detailed planning, which also included the responsible persons from the, FIS-CIT Committee, the races were held from 12-17th February. The downhill, super-G and giant slalom races were staged on the Kandahar pistes, with the ladies and men's events carried out on separate days. On the final day, the slalom races were held on the Gudiberg World Cup slope. The excellent snow and well prepared race courses provided fair conditions for all participants, who showed great sport and excellent performances.
The FIS TD in charge was Steffi Wild who with the help of chief of race, Andi Fischer, both locals from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and together with dozens of volunteers from the Organizing Committee guaranteed a smooth organization of the competitions. With 20 nations and almost 740 competitors in the various events, the 21st FIS-CIT Critérium Mondial 2012 became a true success story and a great commercial for FIS-CIT racing. In particular, the event provided a great opportunity for the young racers of various nations to measure themselves against each other.
The official ceremonies including the opening ceremony took place at Mohrenplatz in center of Garmisch - a wonderful highlight. After the excellent race week, it was easy for the FIS-CIT chairman Urs P. Dietrich to draw a positive conclusion with everything well organized and worked out without a hitch. Great thanks belong to the Organizers, the German Ski Association and the sponsors without which events of this kind would not be possible. The participants have now returned home with great memories and images of a wonderful 21st FIS-CIT Critérium Mondial 2012.
