Two million spectators at FIS World Cup events

The FIS World Cup tours in the six Olympic disciplines again attracted just under 2 million spectators during the past 2010/2011 season, thus remaining at around the same level as the previous two - 2009/2010 and 2008/2009 - seasons. These numbers exclude the spectators at the FIS World Championships 2011 which in Oslo 2011 alone amounted to more than 1.2 million fans of Nordic Skiing.

During the long season, from October 2010 to March 2011, 260 FIS World Cup competitions were carried out in the six Olympic disciplines (compared with 279 the previous season). Each of the 109 World Cup sites invested great efforts to deliver their events.

In the Viessmann FIS Cross-Country World Cup, 17 sites in 14 nations saw more than 500`000 spectators. The Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup was organized in 14 nations at 33 sites and attended by almost 700`000 spectators on site. The Bauhaus FIS Ski Jumping World Cup also collected nearly 500`000 spectators in nine different countries and the 14 competitions in the DKB Nordic Combined World Cup were visited by over 80`000 fans.

The FIS Freestyle World Cup travelled to 14 different nations and 22 sites which saw around 60`000 spectators enjoy the athletes' spectacular performances. The LG Snowboard FIS World Cup visited 11 nations, and attracted more than 80`000 snowboard fans.
