FIS Forum Alpinum & 5th Chiefs of Media Meeting

The Forum Alpinum, the traditional annual season opening information session for the ski journalists took place on 26th October, the day before the opening of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup season 2012/13.

As in recent years, the FIS management led by FIS President Gian Franco Kasper together with FIS Alpine Chief Race Directors Guenter Hujara and Atle Skaardal provided an update on FIS’ activities and stood ready for questions and answers with the international ski media. As another highlight, the Forum included the presence of the overall World Cup title winners from the 2011/12 season, Lindsey Vonn and Marcel Hirscher, who spoke about their summer preparations and aspirations for the new season. Additionally, Florian Zitzlsperger, Head of Brand Partnerships and Sports Marketing of the World Cup title sponsor Audi and Charles Villoz, Sales Director of FIS timing and data partner, Longines provided insights to the more than 150 representatives of the media from a marketing and branding perspective. Presentations by the Organising Committee of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming 2013 and the host broadcaster ORF rounded out the event.

5th Annual Chiefs of Media Meeting for Alpine World Cups

Prior to the Forum Alpinum, more than 30 Chiefs of Media from the various FIS World Cup Organisers together with media officers of the National Ski Associations met to continue the channel of communication they started in 2007 as part of the annual seminar focused on developing services for the media on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup tour.

With the aim of providing a networking platform and the exchange of information among World Cup Organisers, National Ski Associations and FIS, this year’s seminar focused on developing a truly effective post-race procedure.

In interactive group discussions, participants created a check list for the season and enjoyed many exchanges of ideas. The seminar furthermore included a presentation on involving the press: before, during and after the event by Patrick Lang and was concluded by a panel discussion on the challenges experienced by the NSA media officers with the participation of USSA, Sweden-SSF and Swiss-Ski.
