Ski Jumping Continental Cup – Premiere in Sochi

Ski Jumping Continental Cup – Premiere in Sochi

After the initial summer events in Stams (AUT) and Kranj (SLO), Sochi (RUS) staged the third competition in the men’s Ski Jumping Continental Cup 2012 series on 14-15th July, marking a premiere. It was the first time an international competition was held on the large hill (HS 140) of the new facility in Krasnaya Polyana, which has been newly constructed featuring a steel structure from the top of the inrun all the way to the outrun.

Performing well on the 2014 Olympic hill, Sunday’s victory went to former Four-Hills-Tournament winner Anders Jacobsen (NOR). After good performances in training and a second place on the first competition day on Sunday, the Norwegian, who is making a comeback from retirement, triumphed with jumps of 128 m and 131.5 m (235.7 points) in the second competition. With his victory the 27-year-old extended his lead in the overall ranking with 404 points, ahead of Jan Matura (CZE), winner of the first Sochi competition who has 305 points, and Tomaz Naglic (SLO), with 250 points.

Next competitions on the COC series are:

10-11 August: Kuopio (FIN)
8-9 September: Lillehammer (NOR)
15-16 September: Tchaikowski (RUS)
22-23 September: Klingenthal (GER)
