Morgenstern headed for first Tournament victory

Morgenstern headed for first Tournament victory

At the 59th Four-Hills-Tournament, Austrian Thomas Morgenstern is only one step away from winning his first Tournament title. 22'000 fans celebrated his victory in Innsbruck. This was the third time in a row that an Austrian was the best in Innsbruck, but it was Morgenstern's first triumph on the traditional hill where he delivered the longest jumps in both rounds. "Now I know how Wolfgang Loitzl and Gregor Schlierenzauer felt when they won here", he said after the victory. "It is crazy when you fly by the spectators. It was very emotional and it felt very good. I had fun and enjoyed the atmosphere. Now I'm looking forward to going to Bischofshofen as the leader", told today's winner.

With 681.7 points in the overall ranking Morgenstern already has a lead of almost 30 points over his main rival Simon Ammann (SUI). Adam Malysz ranks third with 638.5 points, whilst Matti Hautamaeki from Finland, is fourth (638.4 points).

For Ammann, the 4-Hills-Tournament is already decided. "I didn't have my best day in Innsbruck where I was hoping for better jumps. It'll be difficult in Bischofshofen because Morgi always jumps well there", said the Swiss. Morgenstern won in Bischofshofen last year.

Morgenstern also leads the overall World Cup rankings with 823 points. Andreas Kofler is "the best of the rest" in 2nd with 561 points, followed by Ammann, Hautamaeki and Malysz.
