Freestyle Skiing, Snowboard progress for Sochi 2014
A delegation of FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding professionals and technical experts inspected the progress of preparations at Krasnayana Polyana, the future site of the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding competitions at the Sochi 2014 Games last week.
The focus of the inspection was a thorough review of construction work for the Olympic events with the first events looming in the coming season. "We could see that the work is advancing rapidly, especially since the snow has melted significant progress has been made to finalize the logging, earth and contouring work. With a shared venue planned for currently fourteen medal events in Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding, it is a major and highly complex construction project. However, we are very positive that we will be able to run the FIS Snowboard European Cup competitions at the venue as planned next season," commented Uwe Beier, FIS Race Director for Snowboard.
The operations at the Freestyle and Snowboard venue for Sochi 2014 including lifts and snow-making are scheduled to get underway for the 2011/2012 season.
The FIS experts also assessed the possibilities for a joint Freestyle Ski and Snowboard slopestyle competition site within the planned and existing event, as well as exploring logistical solutions for their inclusion into the current framework of Freestyle Ski and Snowboard competition schedules for Sochi 2014.
