Freestyle Ski World Cup titles up for grabs
FIS Freestyle World Cup Finals will take place in Voss-Myrkdalen (NOR) and La Plagne (FRA). Voss will host a thrilling weekend of events for the world's best moguls skiers and ski crossers whilst halfpipe skiers are competing in France. The aerials finals already took place in late February. In addition to the World Cup titles within the specific events, there's also the overall World Cup still to be awarded.
In moguls, the ladies season has seen one dominant skier , who truly deserves her World Cup title; Hannah Kearney from USA. With 8 World Cup wins, one second place, and a silver and a bronze from the Championships in Deer Valley, there is no doubt that Kearney is the queen of moguls skiing this year - no one has been close to the same kind of consistency as Kearney, although Jennifer Heil of Canada clinched both of the ladies' world titles at Deer Valley to crown the last season of her long and accomplished career.
On the men's side, everything can still happen this weekend. At present, Guilbaut Colas leads the overall moguls World Cup with 741 points. Right behind him, Alexandre Bilodeau (CAN) has 679 points, closely followed by his teammate Mikael Kingsbury (645 points). Last weekend, Bilodeau won both the moguls and dual moguls competition in Are (SWE), and seems to on a roll. A thrilling final is in store in Western Norway!
So what about ski cross? With six nations represented within the top three of ladies and men's standing, it's not decided which flags to raise on Sunday, for the ladies at least. Andreas Matt, who finished fourth in the overall ski cross World Cup last year, has had a tremendous season and already confirmed Austrian victory in the season rankings. For the ladies globe, it's more of a battle. Germany's Heidi Zacher has shown an overall strong performance and has been on the top of the leader board for most of the season, but last weekend, Sweden's Anna Holmlund showed that she will not give up before the very last event. Their last challenger for the overall ski cross crystal globe is Kelsey Serwa, the 2009 FIS Rookie of the Year and Deer Valley 2011 world champion. All the answers will be revealed this weekend.
The halfpipe finals will take place in La Plagne (FRA) with two competitions on Saturday (ladies/men) and two competitions on Sunday (ladies/men). Because of the limited number of competitions this season, there will not be an event World Cup title awarded.
