FISU visits FIS

A delegation from FISU (Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire, or the International University Sports Federation) visited the FIS Office on Thursday, 28th July. Roger Roth, Committee Chairman for the Winter Universiade, Milan Augustin, Director Winter Universiade and Laurent Briel, Director, FISU World University Championships met FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis to discuss a number of issues concerning the events organized by FISU.

The first point was the successful outcome of the Winter Universiade 2011 in Erzurum (TUR) and FISU's delegation expressed its pleasure that the excellent facilities in Turkey will be re-used for the FIS Junior World Championships in the Nordic disciplines in 2012 and Snowboarding in 2013. The preparations for the next editions of the Universiade in Maribor (SLO) in 2013 and Sierra Nevada (2015) were also discussed, both of which are experienced Organizers in several different FIS disciplines. Further discussion concerned the decision of the FISU Executive Board to carry out FISU World University Championships in Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined from 2014 and in so doing, make both optional events at the Winter Universiade, in principle only when the facilities already exist.

The FISU delegation expressed their sincere thanks for the work of the FIS TDs and technical officials that have supported the preparations and organization of the Winter Universiade and their key role in the successful outcome of the FISU's most important event.
