Time is running for Schladming 2013

Schladming 2013 hosted the 5th meeting of the Coordination Group for the next edition of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships on Tuesday 25th October 2011. Having just moved to its new offices in downtown Schladming one day earlier, the Austrian Ski Association and its organizing team was well equipped to welcome the delegations from FIS, EBU, Tridem Sports and host broadcaster ORF, along with representatives of the Town of Schladming and Planai Bahnen that are responsible for the two major infrastructure projects.

With just 15 months until the opening ceremony, massive construction work has been underway 24/7 since early summer at the Planai finish area, where both the ladies' and men's courses will finish. Despite the size of the effort, the huge project which includes new subterranean service level and numerous facilities Ernst Trummel, CEO of the Planai Bahnen was pleased to confirm that all is on schedule for completion on 15th December, along with some contouring work on the courses. The upcoming season's main test events for the World Championships, the Night Race in January and the season's World Cup finals in March 2012 will both be able to use the new structures, providing an excellent opportunity to test flows of the various user groups.

The second major construction project, the building of the new conference center for Schladming, which will house the main media and accreditation centers during the World Championships, is also on schedule and Mayor Jürgen Winter confirmed it will see its official opening on 9th December. The media center will already be located in the new facilities during the Night Race already as well as during the Finals.
