FIS Freestyle Skiing & Snowboard WCs get going

It’s time for the winter sports stars to take centre stage as the FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Ski World Cups get under way at Cardrona Alpine Resort (NZL).

In the Freestyle Ski World Cup events staged on Wednesday, 22nd August, perfect conditions with bluebird sky and the venue in brilliant shape saw US riders Devin Logan and Torin Yater-Wallace win the opening halfpipe competitions.

The FIS Snowboard World Cup halfpipe set for 25th-26th August will also feature riders performing a creative mix of tricks, flips, back-to-back rotations and big air grabs, guaranteeing high adrenaline action.

In total, more than 200 athletes representing 26 nations are battling it out in Cardrona's 22ft superpipe. Again this year the World Cup opener down-under features a top quality field including several Olympic medallists. Quality entries have shown how important this competition is as the first qualifier for the 2014 Winter Games. With the qualification period running until 19th January 2014, skiers and riders will need to earn FIS points in order to qualify for the Games.
