Riesch, Kostelic also lead prize money list
About midway through the 2010-2011 World Cup season, it's no surprise that Ivica Kostelic is at the top of the list of alpiners making the most - money-wise - of their living as professional skiers.
With nine podiums including six victories, Kostelic, who is currently leading the World Cup overall with a whopping 1075 points to runner up Silvan Zubriggen's 643, has earned the most prize money so far this season - significantly more than any other man on the circuit - a total of 369,278 Swiss Francs. On the ladies side, of course World Cup overall leader (1232 points) Maria Riesch is at the top of the prize money list. With 11 podiums including four victories, the German has earned 329,246 CHF so far this season. Her good friend Lindsey Vonn (1087 WC points) isn't far behind in the cash flow. Vonn, who has made it onto the podium 10 times and has won six races, has earned 294,000 CHF.
Adding two big back-to-back victories to his third place in the Wengen slalom, Jean-Baptiste Grange has skied his way to the second most prize money on the men's side, 182,861 CHF. Didier Cuche is next. Notching four podiums so far including his spectacular victory in the Kitzbuehel downhill last weekend, the Swiss veteran has earned 168,630 CHF. Third on the list of the most prize money earned of the ladies, Marlies Schild has made 179,880 CHF with four slalom victories.
With his trio of giant slalom wins, Ted Ligety is fourth on the men's list with 126, 111 CHF earned. Tanja Poutiainen is fourth best-earning of the ladies. She has made 150,296 CHF with five podiums including her slalom victory in Flachau. The only two other ladies who have made more than 100,000 CHF this season are Elisabeth Goergl with 111,371 and Tessa Worley with 106,742 CHF, respectively. Of the men, Aksel Lund Svindal has earned fifth most with 116, 971, followed closely by Zurbriggen with 115,268. A few other men have pocketed six-digit figures of Swiss Francs, including Marcel Hirscher with 111,812, Andre Myhrer with 110,435 and Michael Walcchofer with 103,180.
