World Snow Day well received by tourism industry FIS and the Organizing Committee of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Innsbruck 2012 hosted a joint media event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Tuesday 15th February to promote both the first edition of the winter YOG and the inaugural FIS World Snow Day, both of which will take place in just less than a year. The launch of the World Snow Day is scheduled for 22nd January 2012 which will be the concluding day of Innsbruck YOG 2012 and the day of the traditional Hahnenkamm slalom race in Kitzbühel. Although Innsbruck will be the very first organizer to host the winter edition of YOG, FIS President Gian Franco Kasper said he could not think of a better venue to host the event: "Innsbruck has a long tradition of hosting Olympic Winter Games and top winter sports events, and a great location in the middle of the Alps. I believe they have all it takes to host a successful event next year." The World Snow Day represents the next step in the international FIS Campaign "Bring Children to the Snow" and more importantly, a great chance for pooling resources of the various snow industry stakeholders. By promoting and encouraging people to do activities in the snow and showing that snow can be a way to explore, enjoy and experience, FIS and the various stakeholders hope to gain more active participation in snow activities in the future, especially by families. Fireside panel participants Josef Margraiter, head of Tirol Tourism, Sammy Salm, director of Best of the Alps and Helmut Müller from Input-Doppemayr, joined FIS President Gian Franco Kasper and Peter Bayer, CEO of Innsbruck 2012, to discuss the importance of working together to create special initiatives that help bring youngsters and their families to the snow and agreed on the importance of cooperation to stage more and different actions for the benefit of snow sports.
