Deadline for bids for 2017 FIS Worlds approaching The deadline for the applications to organize the FIS World Championships in 2017 is approaching rapidly. The official deadline is 1st May 2011, but since it falls on a Sunday this year, the closing date for the receipt of applications including the applicable registration fee and guarantee for free training days is Monday 2nd May. According to the FIS Statutes, art. 27.2.3, the Council shall elect the organizers of the 2016/2017 FIS World Championships during the Congress Week in Kangwonland (KOR) on 31st May 2012. Immediately after the deadline for receipt of the applications has passed, each of the Applicant Candidates and their National Ski Associations will receive an information booklet with details of the steps from now until the election that will also include the 2017 Questionnaire for completion over the coming months. A briefing session will take place during the FIS Calendar Conference in Portoroz next month to run through the schedule and activities. Visiting the FIS Office in Oberhofen last week, a delegation from St Moritz (SUI) was one of the first to hand in their application for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2017. It is St. Moritz's third bid, after the 2008 election for the 2013 edition was won by Schladming and the 2010 election for the 2015 event by Vail-Beaver Creek. |
