First Olympic test events in Sochi (RUS) this week With exactly two years to go until the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014, the men's Audi FIS Ski World Cup events in Rosa Khutor, Krasnaya Polyana this week will serve as the first official test events at this level in any of the seven sports on the Olympic Winter Games program. The first downhill training took place today Wednesday offering the racers a chance for a first glimpse of the Olympic downhill in two years' time. FIS Chief Race Director for men's Alpine, Günter Hujara: "Everything has worked according to plan so far, from transport to hotel to accommodation. We held today's first downhill training on the new and challenging course in great weather and course conditions. The entire organization is absolutely meeting all our expectations." The men will race a downhill and super combined on 11th-12th February with three training runs prior. The ladies will follow the week after with downhill and super combined (super-G and slalom) competitions scheduled on 18th-19th February, also with three training runs starting on 15th February. Sochi 2014 also announced the launch of its volunteer recruitment program this week. The program of Olympic volunteers' preparation is one of the most widespread projects of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee. An estimated 25,000 volunteers will work during the Games in more than 20 areas. In addition, around 3,000 volunteers, trained in the City of Sochi, will help visitors attending the Games to travel among the venues and ensure that they are given a welcoming and friendly reception. In total, volunteers will form more than 30% of the overall Games workforce. Volunteers will be recruited via 26 volunteer centers, created within Russian educational institutions selected on a competitive basis. Over 200,000 registered bids are expected on the official website, vol.sochi2014.com, with an estimated eight applicants per position.
