Speed Skiing World Cup commences in Andorra

The FIS Speed Skiing World Cup got underway last weekend in Grandvalira, Andorra. The Swedish ladies immediately continued their winning ways with the 2011 World Cup champion Sanna Tidstrand taking the opening win followed by 2011 runner-up and 2010 World Cup champion Linda Baginski on her heels in 2nd place. 2011 world champion Karine Dubouchet Revol of France took 3rd. "It went really well for me today. I have been working with both my position and the equipment and it is starting to feel that everything is fitting perfectly now," commented Tidstrand.

In the men's competition, the Austrian Klaus Schrottshammer claimed his second career World Cup win in Pas de la Casa-Grandvalira and commented: "I am speechless. To take my second career win here in Andorra on this rolling and technically challenging course is very special for me." Philippe May (SUI) and Bastien Montes (FRA) completed the men's podium. The dominator of the men's Speed Skiing scene since years, Simone Origone of Italy, crashed in his final run.

The Speed Skiing World Cup will continue 15-18th March in Vars (FRA), followed by a stint in Idre/Hundfjellet (Salen) in Sweden and the finals in Verbier (SUI). The North American stage in Sun Peaks (CAN) has been cancelled for this season.
