Lereim appointed Knight of the Order of St. Olav

FIS Medical Committee member Inggard Lereim (NOR) was recently appointed Knight of the first class of the Royal Norwegian St. Olav's Order. His Majesty the King presented Professor, Dr. med Inggard Lereim from Trondheim this highly esteemed award for his efforts in sports medicine. The ceremony was staged at St. Olav's Hospital in Trondheim.

Inggard Lereim is employed as a professor of medicine at NTNU and as special adviser in Norway's Regional Health Authority. He has extensive experience in management and has led academic institutions, research programs, hospital and government investigations. He was director of health services for the Lillehammer Olympic Games, as well as contributing his knowledge to many FIS World Cup, ice hockey and handball events, whilst being the chief of medical service for the national team athletes in the Norwegian Ski Federation.

Dr. Lereim has also been among the main actors in building up national and international anti-doping work. He has worked with FIS, the European Olympic Committee, IOC and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee. He has also been involved in teaching throughout his career, as well guiding and judging doctorates and professorships in Trondheim, Oslo, Tromso, Bergen, Stockholm, Umeå and Gothenburg. He is a specialist in surgery, orthopedics and sports medicine and has published about 150 scientific papers mainly in surgical topics in medical publications. He has received several awards for research, accident prevention and anti-doping work.
