Last Snowboard World Cup stop in Italy
From March 13 to 17, the 2012 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup concludes with two snowboard cross races and one parallel giant slalom in Valmalenco and the last decisions in the race for the discipline World Cup titles will also take place in the Italian winter sport resort.
Dominique Maltais (CAN, 3,560 points) and Pierre Vaultier (FRA, 3,632) are the top favorites in the race for the snowboard cross title. On the women's side, Maltais is already more than 500 points ahead of her team mate Maelle Ricker (CAN, 2,950), the reigning Olympic Champion. On the men's side, the French World Cup leader, who has two titles under his belt already, has a comfortable lead over his competitors. With only two races to come, his strongest pursuer Nate Holland (USA; 2,198) is already about 1,500 points behind.
In the Parallel World Cup, two duels are in the focus. On the ladies side, Amelie Kober (GER, 5,180) is the only race boarder out there who still has the theoretical chance to challenge World Cup leader Patrizia Kummer (SUI, 6,040) for the crystal globe. However, to do so, the German racer, who won the globe in 2009 in the very last race in Valmalenco, has to win; and also has to hope for a slip-up by her rival. If Kummer finishes the race better than rank 18, the 24-year-old will definitely win the title.
On the men's side, Andreas Prommegger (AUT) holds the best cards. With so far 6,550 points, the Austrian is 620 points ahead of his sole competitor for the World Cup title Roland Fischnaller (ITA, 5,930).
